The Blood of the New Covenant

By: Apostle Skhumbuzo Sangweni

“Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the [a]new covenant, which is shed for many for the [b]remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” (Matt 26:27-28)

The new testament is in the blood of Jesus, a testament is the last disposition which one makes of His earthly possessions after His death. The New Testament is not the black leather-bound book. Or the four Gospels with the history of the first church, the epistles, and the prophetic book of revelation. Rather it is a spiritual legal document that enforces the sharing of the inheritance of Christ in the nations. For indeed the Father had given him the nations as a possession “I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession”. (Psalms 2:7-8). When Christ died it become possible for us to enter this inheritance. “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise, it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood (Heb 9:16-18)

When we call ourselves New Testament believers we merely declare that we have legally received everything that the testator left when he died, we have a claim to the inheritance, this inheritance can only be understood and known through the spirit of revelation “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened that ye may know…what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints (Eph 1:18) The Riches of the glory of his inheritance are things that are far and beyond money, because it doesn’t take the light of understanding for us to know money. “And for this cause, He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance”. (Heb 9:15) The work of the Blood of Christ is key and central to two experiences for the believer Redemption and Inheritance

When Jesus took the cup the first thing He did was bless it, The blood of Jesus is blessed and it is for blessing. Covenant blood can’t be effected without a spoken word, which the blood carries and enforces upon all who are participants of the covenant.
