I am The Vine

 By: Apostle Skhumbuzo Sangweni

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.” (John 15:1)

At the close of the last supper, the Lord Jesus assumes a new title on himself,  called “The True Vine” He called himself true, because the vine was a symbol of joy and prosperity in the law of Moses in the Psalms and the Prophets, simply put that which was a similitude in the Old Testament has found true meaning in Christ. In Psalms 80:8 the nation of Israel is referred to as the Vine “You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the [a]nations, and planted it” (Ps 80:8). When God was delivering the nation of Israel out of Egypt; He in essence was delivering vine who is Christ, to plant Him in Canaan the promise land, on their delivery Christ is their saviour when they enter the promise land Christ is their Lord. The promise land is the land of vine trees. (See. 1Kings 4:25; Micah 4:4; Lev 25:1-5). When we get delivered out of Egypt which symbolises the world and sin, we become planted with Christ in Canaan, which symbolises the kingdom of God. Chris the vine that honours God and cheers man (See Judg. 8:13).

The vine is the grape tree, which  grows within a vineyard, which when harvested the grapes are taken into the winepress and crushed to produce wine. Similarly when Christ was seating with his disciplines in the last supper, I imagine when said; I’m the “True Vine” he had in His hand a cup of wine which was part of the supper meal in their culture, but as he looked at the cup a new meaning was given to it, “Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the [a]new covenant, which is shed for many for the [b]remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” (Matt 26:27-28). The Lord was now revealing that the crushed grapes in the winepress, it’s his own body that will be crushed at the cross and the wine produced it’s His blood, and those who drink of the cup will now have true fellowship with him in His Father’s kingdom. He further promised the discipline that he will drink the fruit of the vine anew in the kingdom. This spoke of his resurrection and the true meaning His shed blood on the cross will take in the kingdom of God, it the fruit of the vine; his blood by which our sins are forgiven (See. 1John 1:7). This is the establishment of the New Testament in Blood, so we are connected to a new promise in the Father through Christ, we are the branches of the New covenant established in the vine, if weare the branches, the who we are is directly who He is.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before your throne today, help me to see the Lord Jesus the true vine, I connect with his life as a branch in the fellowship of light where there is no darkness and the blood of Jesus Cleanses me from all sin, Thank Father that I partake in the cup of the blood which is the cup of blessing. I receive the full benefits of the New Testament in His Blood, in Jesus name  Amen

Confession: I confess that I’m a partaker of the New Covenant Life in Blood of Jesus, My sins are forgiven, I have been delivered from darkness and translated into the kingdom of God. I drink of vine that honours God and Cheers man, as a  result I have favour with God and man. I walk in the fullness of work of the shed blood of Christ Jesus my Lord. Amen
