Achieving Your Goals
By: Apostle Skhumbuzo Sangweni
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Phil 3:13)
When starting every journey we begin the with the goal in mind, then we must answer the most important question “what is it going to take for me achieve this end-goal”? The Apostle Paul imparts a wisdom to the Philippian church on how; he intends on achieving his goal namely; “the prize of the upward call of God in Christ.” In this wisdom the apostle first acknowledges what he doesn’t have stating; “I do not count myself to have apprehended” this is the first principle in achieving a goal, knowing what you have and knowing what you don’t have, he audits his own life, and lives with a conscious awareness of what he needs, may people go into self-deception believing they are possessors of things that in the light of revelation truth, they actual lack. Know what you lack
Second to auditing his life, he then deal with the past; “But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind.” To forget literally means; to neglect, no longer care and to lose out of mind. What you keep in your thoughts will determine what you manifest in your life. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Prov 23:7). You must neglect thinking about the past if you must achieve your future goals, our past hurts, failures and even success can at times be the enemy of the new things in the horizon our lives that the Lord has promised, if you are going to achieve financial freedom this year, you must forget the financial failures of past, if you are going to find love, you must let go of your past hurts and fears, if it’s losing weight, going back to school and/or achieving greater success in your career, ministry and business, the only way to guarantee this success is in changing how you think. Renewing your thought and neglecting your past will cause new experiences to come forth. The final principle will see from this wisdom is; “Reaching forth unto those things which are before me” Reaching means to stretch out to, You must allow yourself to be stretched by the Lord, because what is ahead of you is not familiar to you and looks nothing like who you currently are, what you currently have or even where you are currently at. The new goal that you are reaching out for will demand a great deal of transformation from you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Help me to be, aware of what I need, renew my mind with your word, and change my character to stretch for the future that you have for me, help me by your spirit to see everything that may stand on my way to achieving your will for my life. In Jesus name. Amen
Confession: I confess a shift in my mind, a stretching of my character and strength, I will achieve my goals and `I will become all that the Lord Jesus has attained for me at the cross. I put my foot on the neck of my past, it shall not arise again, it shall never affect my light any longer.
